Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in the fields of film, television as well as theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer from the Showtime series Soul Food. She is now known by her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. Her acting talent was evident from childhood. A Maryland high-school competition awarded her the top actress prize. In the years following her involvement in theatre and with "The Washington Ballet Company", she received an acting diploma from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first big role. It was followed by other films including 'Boogie nights Spark' and Blue Streak. Contractor, who was born in Mumbai and resided in Nigeria during seven years had a wide range of adventures and cultural encounters from very young. She attended boarding schools from the age between 7 and 9 years old in London. Later the family moved back to Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she spent her entire childhood. Contractor was a brilliant scholar in Toronto and trained as a classical ballet dancer. She was enrolled in the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a high school that teaches arts in which she didn't just study theater but danced too. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dance Contractor discovered she was looking to pursue acting seriously. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. Contractor was offered the leading character in Pericles after a one-year stint at University. She auditioned for the role in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. Her work was highly acclaimed for the 92 shows which she was a part of. The play won her the award in 2002 for the best production of the Year by Canadian critics. She was invited to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course where only four men and eight women can take a 20 weeks crash program in classical theatre. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season, and was offered the role of Hermia.
